Greenwich Stage Right

Greenwich Stage Right
- Marlborough and Charlton -

Stage Right are fully inclusive performing arts groups aimed primarily at children with special needs, but including children in mainstream education, and are led by experienced, specialised performing arts teachers.

Stage Right provides members with a way to access performance appropriate to their individual needs. Participants, aged between 8 and 19 years, are encouraged to use music, drama, and dance to develop confidence, performance and communication skills.

Sessions include: a whole group warm up, smaller group activities and whole group cool downs and relaxation.

  • DANCE activities include: Expressive, communicative, and character work.

  • DRAMA activities include: Voice projection, role-play, confidence building exercises and mini productions

  • MUSIC activities include: Exploration of voice and percussive instruments, sound beam, composition and small group performances.

Participants work in pairs, groups and individually.
OT and physiotherapy needs will be considered wherever possible.

There will also be opportunities to perform with other GAMD ensembles. In the last year, Stage Right (Marlborough) have performed with the Greenwich Youth Band in Eltham, and will be performing in June with the Greenwich Community Choir as part of the 'GAMD Evening of Music' on 23 June 2008.

In the future, there is scope for two groups (depending on demand and funding), one for under-16s, and one for 16 years to adult, and we hope to secure funding to provide transport to and from the ensemble venue.

Stage Right Director: CAROLE CHURCH B.Ed(hons)

Carole is an experienced music and drama teacher who has worked in both mainstream and special needs environments. Currently working at Marlborough School, she heads the Performing Arts department. She writes and produces at least one major production a year, which involves every pupil in the school whatever their ability.

Carole is a trained Brain Gym instructor, and is qualified to deal with those with the most challenging of behaviours. She is also an accomplished singer, working in England and abroad, with some of the most well known Big Bands in the country.

Her philosophy is that everyone should achieve their potential in performing arts no matter what their starting point.
