GREENWICH YOUTH BAND

** GYB have recently returned from a very successful tour to Lake Garda, Italy. For photos of the tour, please go to GYB Photo Gallery page **

Greenwich Youth Band is the premier band in the borough of Greenwich.

GYB was established in 1982, in response to a need among local young musicians for an advanced band outside the school environment. The band consists of approximately 60 young musicians (resident in and around the borough of Greenwich), whose standard of playing is unsurpassed locally, and it provides the much needed experience of rehearsing, learning and performing a wide range of styles of music to an exceptionally high standard.
The band rehearses weekly and performs all over the borough throughout the year, under the leadership of Chris Lloyd.

GYB is for musicians of minimum grade 6 standard, aged between 11 and 18 years.

GYB aims to develop essential musicianship skills through positive, disciplined rehearsals and sectionals with visiting professional musicians.
Band members have a warm rapport with each other, which results in a good working atmosphere at rehearsals, concerts and tours.

The band has a long history of European tours. In 2006, GYB visited the Rhineland, and July 2007 saw us visiting the South of France. In July 2009, the Band will travel to Lake Garda, Italy; we are looking forward already to sampling the Italian cuisine, enjoying the relaxed lifestyle in our 4* hotel, and particularly to playing in the lakeside concerts!

One of the most important aspects of being a member of the Greenwich Youth Band is the social life. Firm friendships are formed, and in several cases, marriages have resulted!
