Greenwich Youth Band
Greenwich Youth Band is the premier band in the borough of Greenwich.
GYB was established in 1982, in response to a need among local young musicians for an advanced band outside the school environment. The band consists of approx. 60 young musicians (resident in and around the borough of Greenwich), whose standard of playing is unsurpassed locally. It provides the much needed experience of rehearsing, learning and performing a wide range of styles of music to an exceptionally high standard.
GYB is for musicians of minimum grade 6 standard, aged between 11-18 years, and aims to develop essential musicianship skills through positive, disciplined rehearsals and sectionals with visiting professional musicians. They rehearse weekly and perform all over the borough, under the leadership of Chris Lloyd.
The band has a successful history of European tours, and the foreign concert tour is a bi-annual event. Previous destinations have included Barcelona, Tuscany, Salzburg, South of France, and Prague. In July 2009, the Band travelled to Lake Garda, Italy. We enjoyed sampling the Italian cuisine, enjoyed the relaxed lifestyle in our 4* hotel, and played to extremely enthusiastic audiences at our lakeside concerts. We are looking forward to returning to the Rhineland in July 2011.
One of the most important aspects of being a member of the Greenwich Youth Band is the social life. Firm friendships are formed, and in several cases, marriages have resulted!

Friday 7-9pm during term-time @ Eltham Park Methodist Church, Westmount Road, Eltham, SE9. Cost... £36 per term. £31 concessionary rate (plus pay concessionary rate if you are a member of more than 1 ensemble, or have 2 people in same family in GAMD ensembles) |
